First time build so looking for advice on my choices

Budget of 2k. http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/86qxHN Yes it is lacking a case, don't know which would fit everything so looking for advice on that. Also would like advice on SSD vs HDD or if what I have is good.

So my laptop has started to slow down quite a bit so now is perhaps the time to upgrade and was wondering how my build looks so far. Wont be used for anything fancy like editing just simple hours on end gaming sessions with some internet tabs open so let me know what can be substituted and what is perfect.

This partlist would've been great when Haswell was new, however it needs a little of a refresh...

CPU:

The i5 4690k is a great CPU, and still is great for what it is thanks to the lack of innovation from Intel. However, getting Skylake has many advantages, such as stronger iGPU (for whatever reason you may need it), DDR4 support, as well as more stable and consistent overclocks between different chips. I'd switch this for a i5 6600k

Motherboards

Thanks to the lower power usage of Skylake, motherboards don't have to be built as heavily nowadays to get a solid overclock. I don't exactly have a "fill all" recommendation, as everyone is looking for something a little different, so just remember to get something with solid reviews, as well as being Z170. However a solid, very reliable motherboard would be the Asus Z170 A.

Asus Z170-A ATX LGA 1151

RAM:

Just switch to DDR4 with any reliable brand and any design that you like. Just remember, speeds don't particularly matter so just get the best per GB, probably at 16GB if you don't plan on video editing too much, otherwise 32 if video editing is going to be a big focus.

Storage:

Just consider switching the 1TB Caviar Blue to something larger for hours of recording and games and all that. I'd get 2TB minimum, however if you know that videos will be a big focus, getting a 4TB WD Red would be my personal option for anything optimized for video editing and mass storage.

Western Digital Red 4TB

Power Supply

While the EVGA NEX is okay, you could do better. I'd consider switching it for a Corsair RMx550 or similar

Hopefully this helps!
