What will this PC be used mainly for?

Intense gaming, some schoolwork (maybe) :D

An i5 would be more than fine and you can get a better GPU (RX480 or GTX 1060).

Because you selected a B150 motherboard I'm assuming you wont be overclocking. If you want to overclock then changing to an i5-6600k, Z170 motherboard and adding a cooler.

Like aussiectk ask, what is the purpose of this pc. You have an unlocked i7 with a B150 motherboard which makes no sense.

Why would you need a 1200 watts psu when 500 is more than enough.. ANd you could do way much better and cheaper with the PSU.

Sorry, I don't know much about pc parts and stuff. Should I change out the mb and psu? If so, can you give me any recommendations?

I posted a nice build. You need to reply to my comment so I get a notification. Do you want to overclock??

  • 1 point

Yes, I do. But could I stick with the core i7, it's overclockable right?

  • 1 point

Yes the K version is overclockable but you need a Z170 motherboard. I posted a build with the i5-6600k which is also overclockable.

Take into consideration that for gaming getting the i7 over the i5 will give you little to no benefit. Here are some benchmarks so you can see

http://www.anandtech.com/show/9483/intel-skylake-review-6700k-6600k-ddr4-ddr3-ipc-6th-generation/16

Now an i7 would make sense for heavy multitasking, as hyper threading will help. Photoshop, video editing... If youre doing stuff that benefits from HT then get the i7, if not you are just overspending as the i5 will be perfect for gaming and also the sweet spot.

I7 vs i5 in gaming is very little. In fact so little that it just makes no sense to go for the i7 since it is really bad bang for your buck.

lets say i want to record while gaming, will an i5 still be good?

I would get the unlocked i5-6600K even if recording games. It will do fine.

i see the z170 doesn’t have any wireless networking built in. do you have any recommendations on wireless cards that will work good with it?

Gigabyte GC-WB867D-I PCI-Express x1 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi Adapter

Would this be a good pairing? comes from the same manufacturer.

  1. CPU is overkill for gaming. Save some money and go with an i5.

  2. With some of that saved money you can get a better CPU cooler for higher overclocked like the H7

  3. If you go with an unlocked CPU (an Intel CPU with a K on the end) then you will need a z170 motherboard or you won't be able to overclock.

  4. Ram is a tiny bit expensive. Shouldn't really matter though.

  5. There is no point in going for an 8gb RX 470. You may as well just get an Rx 480 or gtx 1060.

  6. That psu is way too many watts for this PC. If you want a good quality power supply then go with the EVGA G2 550w for $80.

ok, so between the rx 480 and the gtx 1060, which will give me better fps while recording gameplay? on high to ultra settings too?

Depends on what games you will be playing

minecraft (multiplayer mostly), cs:go, overwatch, doom, battlefield 4, and a couple other steam games.
