Upgrading psu in Dell XPS 8500

I have just upgraded my 660 graphics card to a GTX 1070 Reference Blower card, however I needed to upgrade my PSU to support this. I bought the Corsair CX750 however it is too large to fit within the case and also does not have a 4 pinned connector to connect to the motherboard.

Is there a power supply that is >500W that is compatible with the Dell XPS 8500 which is the correct size and has both the 4 pinned for the motherboard and 8 pinned connector for the 1070?

The current PSU dimension is 14 X 15 X 8.5cm

Not very experienced in this as its my first time upgrading.

There is a great thread on the dell community forum. the 8500 / 8700 and 8900 cases are essentially the same.

I have Seasonic X-650 in two 8700s and it is snug, but fits.

I thought I had seen someone stuff a CX750 into an XPS 8700

The 4pin CPU connector isn't an issue. four of the 8 pins will work on the EPS style 8 pin connector. on my seasonic, the connector is a 4+4, and I have the extra 4 pin connector zip tied up out of the way.

If you have an 8 pin CPU connector, you can use four of the pins without any issues.

edit: I want to add, and to warn, don't connect an 8 pin PCIe power cable to the motherboard or it will be trouble... Make sure it is the CPU and make sure it is connected properly.

edit 2: Don't forget to update BIOS to A10 or if running windows 10, A11. GTX 9x0 and10x0 cards will not run on 8700s with BIOS earlier than A10.

Thanks for clearing up my confusion with the 4 pinned CPU connector to motherboard, I've been searching around and found a guy here said the depth can be Max 16.5cm due to the Audio and Mic jacks at the top (which is what was in the way when trying to put in the Corsair. http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3515/t/19474677

I have been looking at a few different ones and found this: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3515/t/19474677

According to the questions it is the KM3 model which is 16 x 15 x 8.6 cm in size, so should fit in the case.

Thanks for letting me know about BIOS, seems mine was up to date anyway for windows 10.

The SS 760 XP2 is on sale today for $85 after rebates. It is the same size as the X650.

http://pcpartpicker.com/forums/topic/185808-85-seasonic-ss-760xp2-760w-platinum-full-modular-psu-through-102-after-rebate

It is a fantastic PSU. The X650 and SS660 were on sale last week for $80 so for $5 more you get more power and platinum, and compared to the Corsair CX is much better.

The X650 that I have in two of ours is the same size as the SS660 and SS 760 and it is the KM3.

150 mm (W) x 160 mm (L) x 86 mm (H) https://seasonic.com/product/x-650/ https://seasonic.com/product/platinum-760/

Pics of my kid's are on this page http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3515/t/19611037?pi21953=26

You can see it is a tight fit with the top connectors, but it does fit.

note: Seasonic Rep said that the PSU fan should be set to run continuous when mounted upside down at the top of a case like it is in that picture, otherwise the heat cannot easily radiate out the vent.

good luck,

On the BIOS, that is my mistake. Those numbers are for an 8700, not the 8500. I don't know which BIOS you need to run a 1070.
