Portable HTPC for Mom Revision 2. Opinions and Suggestions Wanted !!

sponix

Budget: Roughly $1K USD ($1,300 Max)

Location: USA, Missouri, Living Room

Use (Gaming, Rendering, etc): HTPC

Peripherals required (monitor, keyboard/mouse, etc): Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, Wireless

Operating System required: Linux Mint or Windows 10.. Still undecided at this point....

I'm aware that the BitFenix Case Fans aren't needed. They are just for Looks.. Just a thing with me, when I build a PC it has to Look nice as well Grin..

Also wanted to mention that the system is relying on the Integrated Graphics for video playback. From what I've read it should be able to handle 4K playback without any issues.

So changing the PSU has been mentioned. You'd also be fine with 8GB of RAM and probably get away with an i3 6100... Get a large capacity HDD instead of the SSD (I assume the M.2 is the OS drive), far better value and there's no need for the SSD speed if it's just going to store movies etc. TBH, using a regular SATA SSD as the OS drive will be fine, and save even more money. You could use the stock cooler too, up to you.

Here's those suggestions in a list

Thanks for your input.. I dropped the extra Fans for now also and implemented this as a Budget oriented build..

Don't plan on purchasing until around Tax time, so most of these choices will likely not even be relevant by then. BUT I really enjoy the part selection process and will go through several revisions depending on what the Budget ends up being.

By then Kaby Lake should be out, and possibly even some ZEN from AMD....

Except its a HTPC, not for gaming/rendering, read it carefully!

Yes, the use is after the colon, the bits in brackets are just examples so people know what kind of thing to write.
