This is my first attempt at building a PC, and I would love some opinions and thoughts from the community about the parts selected. I am going to be using this PC primarily for photo and video editing as well as gaming. Any and all suggestions are welcome and greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Move up to the LGA1151 platform. You'll get a better CPU, motherboard, and RAM for about the same cost. Also drop the V300 SSD and get a better one for the money. PNY, Crucial, and Samsung all make great ones. Instead of the GTX 970, go for an RX 480 or GTX 1060. Both will give you better performance for the same cost or lower. I'd also get a better PSU. A Corsair CXM minimum or if you want a good quality unit the Corsair RMx or EVGA G2 are both very good units for not much more. The PSU is something you don't want to skimp out on. Case is personal preference, although keep in mind some are easier to work in than others. Also if you want to overclock, just get a better cooler. The M9i is a great one for standard cooling and light overclocks though.

Why not skylake? Better ssd and rx 480 is cheaper and a bit better then gtx 970 or do you need the cuda cores? And a better psu.
