Here's the parts list I've created after tons of research. I'd like to hear as many opinions as possible. I'm moving to PC gaming from console gaming, so any kind of help is greatly appreciated! (I still have a lot to learn) my budget is ~$1100-$1200

Thanks!

I mostly agree with you, altough the z170 motherboard is useless since he can't overclock his CPU anyways. Switch that out for a cheaper one like H170,(Then you'd probably have switch to slower RAM). With the extra cash get an HDD. And 144hz rocks! Especially for FPS competitive games.

Should I get the 8gb or 4gb rx 480 GPU? Also, I failed to mention that my current build is already pushing my budget as-is. Should I have an HDD AND an SSD? I know that the SSD should handle OS and a few games. What would I use the HDD for? Also, can you explain the OC process for me? You mentioned not being able to monitor temps. What are the benefits of the 144hz vs the 60hz 1080p monitor I previously selected?

Sorry if any of these questions seem ignorant, but I'm trying to learn as much as possible before I drop this much cash.

Thanks!

Thanks, I added your recommended monitor to my parts list, looks like an great affordable monitor. I love that case, but I need space for an optical drive. (I still use DVDs, CDs, old computer games, etc). Do I need an aftermarket CPU cooler? I was planning on just using the fan/heatsink that comes with the i5 processor. Also, what determines a good vs poor power supply?

On another note, I like that mechanical keyboard, but I need a number pad. I'm a finance major/professional, so a number pad for excel is a must. (without having to buy a cheap USB number pad)

When would you recommend buying all of these parts? The PC part market is new to me, I don't know how the cycles work yet.
