Is this cheap build for i5-6600k and gtx-1070 worth it?

The evga 400 psu is something you should not use with a build like this. The cxm is better.

Also, another question, is there a noticeable difference in performance between the 1070 mini and the regular 1070?

No

i second this emotion, also use 2 4gb sticks because you get better performance that way than putting it all on 1 8gb stick.

whats wrong with the single stick of ram? it comes cheaper and doesnt offer really any performance gains over a dual stick (compared to a weaker cpu).

how often does this failure occur? because if i had to guess it is probably next to none.

also if we want the best redundancy why not go for ECC ram and get quad channel or even octochannel??

and im not sure if those all work. to the best of my knowledge threads prepare workloads for the cores, so having more threads prepares more data for the cores. its not error checking the data per say (i dont know if threads handle error checking). And also you want to have one variable at a time. if you have 10 variables that you are testing all at once then you cant be certain which variable caused the change. You do however want as many tests as you can get however.
