Upgrading after 5 years (Gaming / Digital Media)

My current build is an HD 6870, i5 2500, 8GB RAM. Really need an upgrade to reasonably continue gaming and working with audio/graphics/etc.

Budget isn't really a problem since sourcing from overseas brings the price down considerably. I just want a big case with the freedom to expand RAM, add other components, and upgrade to an SLI 1080ti (or equivalent) whenever they're released, possibly water cooled but not for now. I'll hand over my current, older build to a family member and pass onto them the 1070 later when upgrading in increments.

Is this a reasonable build? I know it will be a refreshing change from my current PC either way.

Yes this is a great build! However, why not grab a 6600k and a 1080. For most builds, a GPU is more important than a CPU. Of course, you don't have to follow my recommendations. This is just my opinion

That's pretty beastly. Are you looking to reduce cost if possible? That can be accomplished with MB and PSU selection.

Yeah, I've switched out the PSU for the Gold edition. Didn't realise the only difference was something like a 2-3% power efficiency. Still retaining the 1000W and Mobo for future proof expansion. This is a barebones build for what I want at the moment. Hardest part is finding the case locally.
