No frills, best bang-for-your-buck build, around £1100 all in.

I am a complete PC virgin, go easy on me.

This build is intended to play AAA games at 1080p on high/ultra (particularly BF1), without any of the gimmicks or fancy stuff but provide a good base for future upgrades, please let me know what you think. I've decided to spend the money where I reckon it is more important to me at the moment, i.e. CPU, GPU, mobo. I'm hoping to OC what I can too.

I plan to upgrade in 12 months or so - maybe buy another RX 480, 4x8gb ram, 1TB SSD, bigger/extra monitor, larger PSU, better cooling.

Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated!

Get a better cooler, like the Cryorig H7 or C7 or a Cooler Master 212Evo. Other than that is looks pretty good

If you're ok forgoing overclocking ability, you can snag a much better GPU.

I'm very torn between the 1060 and 480, the sticking point for me is that the 1060 doesn't support SLI - is it that much better than the 480?

Out of curiosity, what makes the Z170-A better than the PRO? From what I've researched the PRO is higher quality but the problem was value for money in comparison to the A, however, the price has come down now and both mobos are roughly the same price.

The 1060 is slightly faster, only like 5% on average I believe.
