This is my first build. I spent a while tweaking the parts to get a good balance of performance/looks/cost. My main application will be gaming and browsing. Any advice is appreciated, and thanks in advance.

i7 or i5 (I can't decide whether to pay the extra fee for better performance, or stick to affordability)

The i5 won't disappoint if the system is being build for gaming. I did trim a lot of fat and extra cost from the build without losing performance though. This option has a better air cooler, more reasonably priced motherboard, faster RAM, comparable but more affordable SSD, and a more affordable case. The case of course is purely up to you.
