I'm pretty new to using VMs, I just installed Ubuntu on a VM. Now I launched it up and installed what I needed to, but I noticed that I have no sound. I just tried going into the VM settings to making sure it is using the sound devices I need (Realtek Digital Output), but there is still no sound. What should I do?

Edit: I put this in the wrong section, didn't I?

I haven't used VMware, but I know that some virtualization software has something to help communicate with the guest OS from the host OS. For example, VirtualBox has a "Guest Additions" software that you install on the guest. It has a set of much-needed drivers.

This sounds like a driver issue to me.

Install Ubuntu specific drivers.

I only saw the micro processor drivers. Install?

Install RealTek drivers for your audio chipset from RLT's site.

Alright, I'll try that when I get the chance to, I'll let you know what happens next.

Are you using ESXI for the server? I had this issue as well for a windows 7 VM. Nothing really seems to work. USB passthrough of headphones didn;t even work, the audio was there but so bad it was unusable.
