Efficiency only means efficiency, nothing else. Also it doesn't mean much then if its gold vs. bronze or gold vs. platinum. The NexG isn't a good PSU and is AWFUL for its price at $90, it should be $60 at the most. With your budget I would either get a Evga G2, G3, or a Corsair RMx. Whichever is cheaper. As for the wattage 550W will be plenty although if you want to do SLI with something like two GTX 1080's down the road a 650W would be a good idea.

ignore consumer reviews since just about zero of them know anything technical about PSU's, they can't do ANY real testing on it without expensive specialized equipment and you need to open it up to see the build quaility and then be knowledge enough to make sense of it, anything could be DOA. All they can real do is say how loud it is and how the cables are. They can't do any real testing or review on it. Using consumer reviews to buy a PSU is like asking a 5 year old what car you should buy.

To see how good a PSU really is use a professional review that does proper testing.

any objections ?

While it is a good unit you can get one that is just as good for cheaper.

the complaint that concerns me with EVGA is the amount of RMAs that have in the reviews

Literally anything can be DOA and you have see clue about how many brought it and didn't review it. Also there is the factor of how it was handled, did FedEX, UPS, or USPS play soccer with it. Also there is user error, they could claim it was DOA but they may have not plugged it in all of the way. Also reviews are biased towards being negative overall since if a product works and you are happy you likely won't take the time to go to the site and leave a review for it but if you are unhappy and its a DOA you are going to want to make it known.

Like I said you are best off ignoring consumer reviews.

EVGA GQ, G3, G2, BQ, or the new BitFenix Whisper are good options.
