So here we'll be doing a Linux distro survey. If you are a Linux user, post

  • what distribution you use

  • the output of uname -a (to get your kernel)(if you already know your kernel release number, then just post that) run in the terminal

  • the distro release

  • if applicable, the distro codename, architecture(64 or 32 bit?)

  • (if applicable) the desktop environment which you are using.(if multiple, then just type the one you use the most)

So for example

I use -Ubuntu Linux 16.10 "Yakkety Yak" x64 with kernel 4.8.0, with Unity.

16.04 "Yakkety Yak"

I believe you mean Xenial Xerus.

My laptop runs Xubuntu 16.04 Xenial Xerus. Linux kernel 4.8. Xfce DE. 64 bit.

My server runs Lubuntu 16.04 Xenial Xerus. Linux kernel 4.8. LXDE. 64 bit.

Another computer I just made yesterday (no purpose yet) runs Xubuntu 16.04 Xenial Xerus. Linux Kernel 4.4. Xfce DE. 64 bit.

Later I'll add data for my Raspberry Pi since I need to set that up again.

Nah, it's Yakkety Yak. I like to be cutting-edge.

Oh, there we go. You had 16.04 on the table so I couldn't tell which one you were actually running. Lol

But Fedora had problems for my machine - it would never wake up from sleep and I had to force-restart

On client computers. I use opensuse. I run them, so i do know if that counts, but if it does

To fix a few errors, i did not talk about..

The kernel is 4.1.12

no desktop, pure command line.

It comes with GNOME 3.16.4 and KDE Plasma 5.4.2., but not used or installed

I run Ubuntu 16.04 (LTS, I believe) on my desktop. Can't check kernel number. I believe I'm running the default Unity desktop environment, and x86-64.

Not at all. Provided you select only the things you need and don't blindly sync everything to "unstable" every night, the system is perfectly stable and usable.

I started using the "unstable" repository after I got sick of waiting for new releases of major apps (such as Inkscape, ffmpeg, Kdenlive, The GIMP, etc.) to percolate down to "testing", which could take months. And it turned out that, yes, applications pulled from "unstable" are usually perfectly and unremarkably reliable.

Now, the "experimental" repo, that's one to be careful with... :-)
