Is 1440p becoming the new standard for gaming for the next few years?

I'm curious because I found a great deal for a used 60Hz 1440p monitor for just 300$ and prices like those in my country are very cheap considering the taxes. Should I get one because my current monitor is 1200x900p monitor. It would really be a big step up considering that I have a GTX 1060 on my computer. Oh and is buying 2nd hand monitors okay?

Just check for dead pixels or excessive IPS glow.

Well, GPUs are pushing the boundaries in terms of performance and even a 1060 6GB and an RX 480/580 can do 1440p at this point, just cant use ultra settings in AAA titles but you can usually make tweaks to adjust how the games look so it isn't surprising.

The good things is the more GPU bound we become, the less of a difference we will see between CPU since the GPU becomes unabel to procduce mroe frames than the CPU can process.

I really don't care about graphics as long as it is pleasing to me. Anyways I'm gonna buy it thanks for your opinion!
