When i go thru the steps here to build one Like such:
CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core and
MOBO: MSI 970A-G46 ATX AM3+
I get this red box with this message:
Warning: These parts have potential issues/incompatibilities. (See details.)
And at the bottom of the list also states that
"Some AMD 970 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Vishera CPUs."
will this solve the issue?
it just means that its an older chipset and might not have the right bios to go along with it. just disregard it because it will have the right bios and should work right out of the box.
Your fine. I am using the 970 chipset for my AMD FX-8350. If the drivers on the shipped board are out of date, just flash the Bios. On these new boards its so easy it will make your head spin. I just got the Asus M5A97 R2.0, but I wanted the MSI 970A-G46, however I was in-store and they were out.
My Bios update was a 3mb DL to a flash drive then I just used EZ-Flash (MSI has something comparable I believe) and it took like 5 minutes. I may not of had to even flash the Bios, I just did it to be safe. I did have to install Windows using only 1 stick of RAM for some reason though, but after installation I put the second stick in and no problems.
970 chipset works fine, anything lower is shaky because the watt support is sketchy. The major difference in the 970 to 990X and 990FX are there SLI/Crossfire support and max RAM, some have more SATA ports, etc.
Mine has 6 SATA 3 ports, 2 PCI-E slots (I don't really crossfire anyway, but its nice to know I could later), and 32 GB of RAM with great speeds supported up to 2133. These are more than enough for my gaming needs. I runs BF4 like a hot knife through butter with a GTX 650 Ti BOOST on this board and CPU setup.
As zac16 noted though the UEFI and its corresponding microcode and ideally aegsa should be updated to ensure the best compatibility, interoperability and performance.
I'm pretty new so thanx to those to help here.
