Is it possible to use a Windows 8.1 key on a Windows 10 install/update?

I've got a Windows 8.1 laptop and I want to replace it with W10. I remember that when W10 was brand new you could do it, but can you still do it?

Any consumer grade Windows license key from Windows 7 and up should work for Windows 10, so long as you're going from the same "grade" of OS to the other. (ex: Windows 7 Professional/Ultimate -> Win 10 Pro) (ex: Windows 8.1 Core -> Win 10 Home)
