File Explorer Locks System When Accessing Drive (D:)

New Windows 10 and computer builds... I have an older SATA drive in position D... as the title mentions it seems to lock up my system often. I'll open file explorer which will hang, and I noticed when I run task manager this drive is at 100%. Unplugging the SATA cable causes Windows to recover. Thoughts?

possible failing drive. Check your diagnostics and S.M.A.R.T. readings for it.
