High CPU usage when idle.

I recently got a new PC and have been using it for a little over a week now. I noticed something that when i leave the computer for a bit, the CPU usage goes to 50 - 100% and the vcore jumps to 1.35 and at max 1.37 volts. The CPU also goes above what I have it set as (at max 3.85 GHz), and the temps dont go much past 60. What is happening and how can I fix this?

Specs:

  • Ryzen 1500X (3.8 GHz +0.06 dynamic offset (1.3 v)

  • Gigabyte AB350 Gaming 3

  • 16GB Crucial Ballistix LT RAM (2666 16 CAS)

  • EVGA 1060 SSC

Do you have the newest BIOS revision? Are any updates going on in the background?

I'm pretty sure I have the newest BIOS. How do I check if there's any updates in the background?

Gigabyte has an @BIOS function in there apps that come with motherboard. Otherwise enter the BIOS write down the revision number then check the manufacturer website and see if the numbers match.

I checked and everything matched up with the newest version.

Open task manager and sort by CPU usage, that will tell you what is causing the spikes.

I let the PC idle for a bit and watched task manager. My only guesses to what's causing this is svchost.exe (Superfetch) or the ntoskrnl.exe (System). The task manager CPU usage says around 20% but HWMonitor says up to 60%, the cpu and vcore boost is still happening.

That sounds like it is looking for Windows updates. Do you have any pending updates?

I checked and it says my device is up to date after I clicked Check for Updates
