GPU for Basic Office PC

I was able to get this computer for $20 acer-aspire-ax3400-u2012 and plan to give it to my mom to use as a office pc. I was thinking of upgrading the integrated graphics, Nvidia 9200, with a Radeon 2400 Pro. She uses it mostly for email, web browsing, office work, HD video, and casting videos to the TV. Would this card suffice?

For "uber budget" replacement GPU's for this sort of application, do not bother going any older than a terrascale 2 (amd) or fermi (nvidia). The 2400Pro isn't worth the time.

If you want the GPU to be capable of providing hardware accelerated decoding of modern internet (H.265 / VP9) video, then you'll need to go quite a bit newer:

No older than feature set F, 7th gen for nvidia or UVD 6 for amd.

For all intents and purposes, best value on that front will typically be an RX 550 or GT 1030.

GT 1030 gets my vote I just installed one in an older PC and the 30w power req is fantastic. The RX550 will draw a lot more and the 220w power supply you have will not be enough I'm thinking. Plus the RX550 will be overkill in the system you have.

I actually got a deal on the Asus GT 1030 with Pheonix fan; super quiet and I could not be happier.

Nice! I was looking at the GT 1030. I need to find a single-slot version, since the PCI x16 slot is at the end against the case. A guy is selling one locally but the fanless heatsink takes up 2 slots :(
