VR Overheating

My computer over heats and crashes within 5 minutes anytime I try and play VR (Oculus Rift) What do I need to update to prevent overheating?

Notes: 1) My CPU is oculus rift compatible and should be able to handle it. 2) My CPU fan is brand new. Is it not good enough? 3) I'm thinking my PSU might need to be updated or my motherboard is too old.

My parts list is below. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Did you use thermal paste?

I did, but I might not have used enough. The instructions said to only use a small dot. When I spread it around it did not cover the entire cpu. Should I apply more?

No, that should be fine.

okay, thanks. Any other ideas?

The problem is that your CPU cooler can not handle the TDP of the FX 9590. Your CPU cooler only has a max TDP of 100W while your CPU has a TDP of 220w.
