EVGA GTX 780 - minimum of 40 amps on the 12 volt rail

I am looking at this GPU:

I have this PSU:

The GTX 780 requires a minimum of 40 amps on the 12 volt rail. This is probably a dumb question, but I wanted to make sure I am safe picking it up. According to those PSU specs, the 12volt rails add up to over 40, but each individual one listed is only 20. Can someone explain that to me and let me know if it will work?

There's no way a 780 needs minimum 40 amps on the 12V rail. You're talking 480W with that alone, and the GPU TDP is only 250W.

According to my research that specific GPU takes around 300W or a little under. Is the 42 amps on 12v rail requirement listed on the description page just a "better safe than sorry" requirement rather than an actual requirement?

Other 780s such as MSI's don't require that, it seems to be just the EVGA ones, specifically the overclocked ones.
