Can anyone explain to me why my framerate drops below 40 fps on latest AAA games like assassins creed odysey and hitman 2 running on max settings. Drivers are up to date and this problem persist after lowering some settings. PCPartPicker part list](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/NKxCvn) / Price breakdown by merchant

Don't know about hitman, but Assassins Creed Odyssey has some very demanding settings maxed out. Its similarly fairly CPU intensive also. I would look at a readout of the GPU and CPU (MSI AB or similar) to see where the limitation is when your FPS drops.

I would also look at a guide like Hardware unboxed which shows a few tweaks you can make from simply maxing the game out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYfeDhUbWVg

What resolution?

You can't always blame the hardware. Games are just sometimes not well optimized. I play Odyssey myself on a 1070 with 1440p res. I had to turn down AA and volumetric clouds, both to medium. Everything else is maxed. I get an average of 60fps, but of course in some areas it'll dip to 40, but it doesn't stay there long. It certainly doesn't take away from gameplay. Some settings, like the volumetric clouds, doesn't do anything but hurt fps, whatever GPU you have. Now, if you're getting constant 40 fps, then I'd be concerned.

Try turning Anti-aliasing down and volumetric clouds to medium on Odyssey. It doesn't look any different.
