Bachelor of English

It has comes to my attention that many famous celebrities, bust most particularly Actors often have a bachelor in English or pursue a major in English and/or psychology. Surprisingly, many of them haven't attended fine arts or acting colleges.

I've spotted a few musicians that also have majored in English but haven't gone to music school. These are rarer, thought.

Why would they major in language instead of majoring in a program related to their career?

I always thought English was for people who aspired to write literature or teach it in schools.

I'd agree, english degree still has a strong connection to writing and story telling that is the back half of entertainment movies/tv. It is also clearly in the social realm (as opposed to a science degree) of entertainment type things as would be a degree in psych/literature/drama/arts, etc. Some of the best actors are just naturals or family connections, it is something some can do without special instruction while in a technical field that would never happen.
