Lightning Storm Damaged Ethernet Port

Title says it all, we had a lightning storm a couple months ago and now my computer no longer detects a wired internet connection. The WiFi still works fine on it. Would I be better off buying a network adapter and installing that or seeing if a computer tech could repair that part of the motherboard? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Well a new NIC (network adapter) would be cheaper and easier.

Having someone try to repair it is probably going to cost a lot, and you're still going to pay them some money just to look at it, probably be told it's not fixable and then have to buy a NIC anyway.

That's the one downside to some of our very complex and highly integrated hardware technology, it's often not fixable and just easier and cheaper to get a new one.

Thank you! This is what my gut was saying but I wanted a second opinion
