I have an I7-8700k processor with a GTX 1060 6GB. Gaming has been perfect with no issues until the past week where I have been getting slight frequent stutters when in a game. Upon checking my task manager for CPU usage it is showing that any game I launch is using over 60% CPU usage sometimes north of 80%. The only applications running are the game and discord. I have been doing this for months on this settup without problem. Does anyone have any ideas on what I could do? I really don't want to just buy a new CPU if it's not needed.

Stuff like this is very hard to diagnose. What game is it? Did the game recently get and update? Was this after a GPU driver update? Have you tried running the game without Discord running?

I have tried without discord running. I have tried across multiple games to make sure it wasn't any specific one. There have been no recent GPU driver updates. Still getting the same results. about 55-70% CPU usage when the game is running on my screen. When it is minimized it drops to 5% or so.

And you still see the stuttering in game? 55%-70% CPU usage is not strange for gaming, depending on the game and the CPU.

yes. its infrequent so i can't figure out how to replicate it on a consistent basis and is happening in multiple games. Like Apex for example, with an I7-8700K it shouldnt be using that much of the CPU. I have a few friends who have similar builds and have a usage rate of 18-24% compared to my 55-70%. It's the only thing I can point to for the stuttering issues atm.

There is something else running in the background using CPU.

Not that I can see. When I look at CPU usage the game is always using 55-70%. In total it sits around 80%.

If your using Steam or another client did you check to see if its actively updating another game or games while your playing a game?
