This is the build I'm considering. http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/nJrDkL

Having trouble finding appropriate RAM that will fit with the qualified vendors list for that Mobo (http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1150/MAXIMUS-VII-HERO/MAXIMUS_VII_HERO_MEMORY_QVL.pdf)

I would like 16GB but don't want to pay an arm and a leg as well. What would you recommend? Does it HAVE to be from that vendor list to work?

If anyone has any opinions on how I can make this rig better while maintaining around the 1300-1500 price range I'd really appreciate it.

You really don't need 16gb of RAM for gaming (which I am assuming this build is for). I would just get 8gb for now and you can upgrade later.

Would you recommend any specific sticks?

No, it doesn't have to be from the vendor list. It's merely ram that they've tested. 240 pin DIMM is going to work across the board.

I concur with xx116xx regarding the quantity that you should choose.

To save money and improve your build, go with the ASUS Z97-A and half that ram. Upgrade your GPU to GTX 780.

Thanks Guys! Watchful, that board looks up my alley. I like Asus and currently use a IV Gene so I thought I'd stay with the ROG series. I'm going to try that. Really appreciate the help everyone
