lol, i had no idea. first build in over 15 years :). why is gpu necessary? I am ordering the GTX770 at the same time (or within the next day or two) but i thought of getting everything up an running without it as i wait for a sale on GPU

man do i feel dated. so are you seeing i cannot run anything without gpu? i thought for sure there was basic gpu built into processor/mobo that would let me boot into bios. is it worth getting a different mobo just to have this functionality or buying a cheap "backup" gpu in the event of any issues with the 770?

how about the cpu integrated graphics with the mobo display ports?

GPU is needed for processing the graphics. GPU=graphics processin unit.

alright i think you had me going, some quick research indicates i can use integrated cpu graphics to do the basics before i install the nvidia gpu. please tell me if i am mistaken.

If you had in your build only 4670K/4690K then both have integrated graphic and you can run your pc without GPU

thanks, 4690k is in my build. geekzilla really got me going for a second there as it has been a long time since i attempted a build but up until his comment i was pretty confident all my bases were covered.
