$1600 i7 build - did I make good choices for 10-20% overclocking? (gaming/video)

I guess the key point is CPU/mobo/RAM combo. Did I mess up anything?

Update: I dropped the RAM to 8GB and went to Windows 8.1 as per recommendations below.

Update 2: PhantomTaco made me go to 290 video :) Also went to the Samsung Pro SSD.

Couple extra suggestions though:

16 gb of ram isn't particularly useful for gaming or video

I'd ditch win 7 for 8.1 to get dx12. Fact is UI is basically exactly the same after you install a start menu button replacement.

Ok, will switch to Win 8.1 - did not realize the dx12 benefit.

Do you think I should just ditch 8GB & lower the cost?

Any specific reason(s) for the Asrock/Gigabyte switch?

Yeah I would ditch the 8gb, as for the asrock switch it was to save money. If you were to also drop the blu ray drive (unless you're watching blu ray movies) and drop to 8gb and maybe a different case you could probably fit 2 290s into your budget.

Ok, i've updated the top with the ditched RAM and the Win 8.1 OEM

Regarding the RAM, I would ditch it for the saved money. If you were really intent on spending that extra hundred you could save up a bit and get a 290x

I'd like to stay with the Crucial SSD because it has that 10GB/s M.2 interface. Of course the motherboard should have it too!

So on the R9, Radeon driver quality has bitten me many times in the past, is it so much better than the GTX 760? (Especially when you switch to a fairly new OS like Win 8.1)

The thing about that SSD is that while it does have the m.2 interface, it's still a normal sata SSD on m.2, so you get no speed advantages.

The 290 is orders of magnitude better than the 760, and driver quality with AMD has been back up to par with nvidia for a good while now.

Thanks! Noted on the SSD, went to Samsung fast SATA.

Also, went to the 290 video!

See updated original post.
