You don't need thermal paste... Especially that super expensive stuff... You do want a z97 board and not a z87 for instant cpu compatibility reasons. Instead of so many case fans, it's more beneficial to get a good cpu cooler.

I was going to use all my fan spots and use stock CPU cooler that comes with my CPU

That ones ok.

A z87 can handle haswell chips, but they need a bios update in order to use haswell refresh cpus. The 4790k is a haswell refresh. The z97 boards support those right out of the box.

A cpu cooler is a far better idea to be honest. The stock cooler can not handle over clocking that well. It's a much more important part than just adding extra case fans.
