totally new to building a pc, still have a lot to learn ! many thx to anyone who helps me out what kind of mobo should I get??? and would you explain why, looking for one that i can go i3->i5/i7 in the future,

been using a macbook pro and now I need more power w/o wasting $$$,

looking to do a lot of intense photoshop work + blender modeling (for 3d printing), lots of internet tabs,

trying to get something that i can use right away but continue to kinda build out in the future (like a 2nd 8gb of ram) not sure when i should begin to concern myself with cooling issues,

don't need an optical drive, 24" monitor recommendations super appreciated, would like a great monitor (i'm an artist, would like something accurate)

H97 motherboard as you have a locked non K cpu. Both H97 and Z97 wwill be compatible with intels next cpu (broadwell). If you were going to get an unlocked (K) cpu get the Z97 motherboard

i5 = (i7 minus hyper threading)

i5 is excellent for gaming (gaming doesn't benefit from HT) but doesn't have hyper threading. i7 will be better in applications like photoshop, video rendering that take advantage of the HT.

would getting a ASRock Z97M Pro4 in anticipation of getting a i5/i7K cpu later on be a good idea now for my i3 cpu? and would it fit into the case i've got? pcpartpicker says "no"
