Hi, I'm a first time builder here and would like to know if this is a sensible build for my needs. My first priority is 3d modeling/rendering, and second is gaming. Keep in mind that I intend on upgrading my build in the future with new parts such as: more ram, a SSD, another video card, et cetera. My price limit is around $1200, and thats with peripherals.

As you intend to upgrade I'd recommend getting the framework in place to allow that with minimum wasted cost along the way. By that I mean get the heart of it right first, for modeling/rendering you cannot beat the I7, at least 16GB RAM on a decent Z97 motherboard powered by a strong PSU.

I swapped out the 660 for the similar performing 270 which is much cheaper, and the easiest thing to upgrade later is peripherals so I'd start with cheap ones and monitor speakers.

Upgrades to look for are an SSD, better video card and of course peripherals.
