So, I'm eventually looking at building a less budget-oriented PC sometime in the next few months, hopefully one that I might be able to go full bore exploring programming/game development. I'm not necessarily on a tight budget, but, at the same time, I don't want to waste money on things that won't make a real performance difference. I'm looking to get a 1440p monitor, and perhaps running a second monitor when doing work where it would be useful (for gaming I'd probably find two or more monitors a bit overwhelming).
I'm looking at anything from an i5 4690k-970 combo, to an i7 5820k-980 combo, and virtually anything in between, including possibly adding a second budget-oriented graphics cards for the second monitor if it might help performance a bit. The difference between the most and least expensive would be around 600 or so, so I'm just wondering if going for an x99 build would make a noticeable difference, or if a happy medium in the i7 4790k-based build is a good pick.
