Replacing my last build - is this a worthwhile upgrade?

Currently I have an i7 - 860 system with 16 GB memory and an XFX 7870 2gb card in a Cooler Master HAF932. I have a small SSD for O/S and then several 1 tb Caviar Black drives for storage.

Primary use is general computing, gaming (want to be ready for GTA), and also as a DVR / TV.

Do these parts look like a worthwhile upgrade? Thanks for looking and for giving your opinions.

I can get the processor from Microcenter for $249.99 and the MOBO for $119.99 as a bundle. I have used Gigabyte boards in my previous builds and am looking to try something different.

i personally would get the Asus Strik 970 over the EVGA. lots of people complaining about its performance. the MSI is also a good 970.

You could consider moving to the next gen chip, it will cost a bit more, but get you into the next gen stuff. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/wtjzCJ something like that?

Just a thought.

Thank you.

I would consider moving to a 5th gen chip if it will "future proof" the system.

My current system was built in late 2009 and I haven't really felt the need to upgrade until recently so this will hopefully give me another 5 year system.

Thanks for the heads up on the graphics - I will look into that.

Yeah I have a system from 09 with the same CPU. if you go to next gen it will put you in the same boat since in 09 getting the i7 was like getting the new chip this year. either way its a sweet build.

This is what I ended up with - bought the parts from a variety of vendors- Microcenter for the MOBO, CASE, and PROCESSOR. NewEgg for the COOLER and PSU, the rest from Amazon.
