great build! no cooler needed unless you purchase a K variant and overclock the stock cooler will work just fine.

Very nice, but as you are using CPU that cannot be overclocked then the stock cooler will work just fine - Sandisk ultra very good and cheaper than MX100.

Savings allow 4690, Z97 mobo and better PSU.

thanks for all the help ive been struggling to find much of it.

what about this ? http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/gD8pFT also why the upgraded mobo all it does is support slightly faster RAM which i do not need ? surely i can save money this way

Looking a very nice build.

The reason for the more expensive motherboard is the chipset, the Z97 supports the 4590 you had originally, the 4690 and 4690k. These are Haswell refresh chips, the latest from Intel. It is also expected to support next years Broadwell chips, so gives scope for future upgrade should you feel the need.

The Z87 also supports the Haswell refresh chips but it may need a bios update, to do the bios update you will need a cpu it does understand installed, which is a problem. Personally, I wouldn't take the risk.

To use a Z87 motherboard would be better with an I5 4570, 4670 or 4670k, which are the slightly older, slower version. Again personally, I wouldn't accept that when spending a lot of money.

could you recommend another board maybe because this board seems to have a lot of bad reviews with the USB not working etc.

This search will bring back suitable boards; http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/parts/motherboard/#f=7&c=99&l=2&sort=a7

Both Gigabyte and ASRock have them at a similar price. I tend to favour Gigabyte or MSI boards, had good experience with both, never had an ASRock one.
