Building a gaming rig for my son, comments and feedback appreciated!

Hoping to get all of this in-house and put together as a gift for my oldest son for Christmas. I've been collecting various parts here and there to put something decent together. (case, video card, and PSU all given to me for his benefit)

I appreciate any thoughts - especially on the CPU/mobo combo, memory, and thoughts about fans/air handling.

Most of the games he'll play will be a collection of games we share from my Steam Library and various Humble Bundles. (many of which we've never played because our old rig just could not keep up)

Thanks. Have any recommendations there? I've got one just like this one and it's been working great.

I've personally used the TP Link WRN 4800 but I got a recommendation to try the Roswell N900 PCE. 30-40 bucks

why spend 70$ on a cpu cooler when your cpu is 115$? That is outrageous. Why not buy the 212 evo which is an outstanding cooler for 40$ less. You can put the 40$ somewhere eles in the rig. The gtx 580 isnt a great choice. You can go with a r9 280 or put the extra 40$ u save and get a r9 290. 50$ on an optical drive? the highest rated optical drive on the site goes for less than 20$. 215$ on a 144 hertz monitor is crazy. There has been testing that the eye cant see past 60 hertz linus has tested it before and there is no difference but seeing your fps cap at 60. Please reconsider before it is too late. Dont mean to sound harsh but im just astonished.

Thanks for the feedback.

GTX580 was a gift so no need to purchase something. I am going to build another rig if I have money left and will consider the Radeon cards.

Monitor, bd/dvd drive were thrown in without much thought -- hence the desire for feedback. It's been over 10 years since I last built a computer and this site is awesome. (as is the ability to get feedback and recommendations)

Thanks again!
