What windows should I get?

Thanks for the reply!

Windows 7 Professional is the best. If you insist on windows 8/8.1, then 8 because you can always upgrade to 8.1

how do you get windows 7 professional for free? I'm ok with that, I thought I had to get 8+.

oh sorry i meant you could upgrade windows 8 to 8.1 for free. Windows 7 Pro costs about as much as Windows 8 give or take 20 bucks.

Ok thanks, and sorry 1 more question. Would I be able to use the DVD drive thing in my old desktop for this new build? It would save me $14

Yeah, you can definitely reuse an optical drive.
