How to improving this $700 - $800 budget PC?

Vault

How can I improve the following build? Know that I live in Canada so the price must be in Canadian dollars.

Also, I will be buying the parts during the Christmas sales, so the $700/$800 can include the sales.

Couple questions:

  • Is there any way to upgrade to an i5 within my price range?
  • Do you suggest a different motherboard (cheaper as well)?
  • GTX 760 or R9 270/280?
  • How can I reduce the overall price?
  • Is 620W for the PSU overkill?

I think you should try skimping a bit on that power supply and getting a Western Digital 1TB Hard Drive because I personally find that they are better quality, you can also check out gigabyte motherboards too because they are pretty nice for their performance to price ratio.

Roughly same price with an i5.

Problem is, these are in USD, not Canadian dollars (where parts are far more expensive).

Is 500W for the PSU enough?

  • 2 points

Yep! PSU's guaranteed for at least 400W, seeing as it's 500W and 80+ certified. I don't know why we're getting different prices on the Video Card, but go with the one in your post. Also! Definitely go with (any) Z97 board over the Z87 in your current build.

You're better off with an R9 280.

I've updated the build with the feedback I've gotten so far. The price is at $792 right now. Any way to bring it lower with the updated build?
