Building a budget gaming PC for a ten year olds first machine. Please offer any thoughts on the parts I have planned. http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/charliespurrier/saved/gJbcCJ He is only used to playing on Kongregate, so this should blow him away?

Looking pretty good but you can get a little more for your money;

  • The I3-4360 is slightly cheaper and faster
  • H97 motherboard does not support 1866 memory, need 1600
  • The Radeon 280 is quite a bit more powerful for just £5 extra
  • Added a slightly larger PSU to give a bit more headroom

Thanks I have changed the CPU and RAM. I initially thought to go with an overclocked Pentium anniversary, hence I chose low profile Ram to clear the aftermarket air cooler. I will read up about the psu. I know it's a solid unit, but I need a reasonably shallow one because the prodigy is tight and I have fat fingers! However I found the 270x for £103.xx and it should overclock to near 280 levels.

The other thing I need to consider is postage prices, I live in the Channel Islands which means certain retailers bend me over on shipping costs. (No VAT though!)

A 270x for £103 is a very good deal, jealous of the no VAT! Not so much about high postage. Should be a nice little build.

And you don't need the bigger PSU with a 270x, although EVGA units are good and tend to be cheaper, assuming it fits your size requirements.

Thanks for your help, shaved a few quid and a little performance bump. Much appreciated. Ordering now and excited to build again!
