Gaming / Streaming up to $1,500

Hello Everyone,

I am building a new computer that will mainly be used to play World of Warcraft and other video games like Fall Out, Skyrim, Dragon Age, etc. I also stream WoW raids so want the 16 gigs of ram. I don't want to overclock so am hoping I don't need an aftermarket cooler. Since I am not overclocking I was curious if a different motherboard / processor would be better value for me. I'm open to suggestions on everything. I am also not interested in SLI. I do have a 1 TB hard drive and CD Drive I will bring in from my old computer. Thank you!

Also there is a microcenter about 30 miles from my house so if there are deals to be had that are worth some gas money I'd love to hear about it!

Since you're already getting your processor from microcenter, you could get a mobo from there was well. The bundle with the Gigabyte Gaming 7 would likely be cheaper than you processor and the Gaming 5 separate (although you'd have to look at sales tax).

You could get a H97, but I'm not sure if those are as good quality as Z97s. And you could always OC when you would otherwise replace your processor (of course you'd have to buy a CPU cooler then). Considering how much cheaper microcenter is on CPUs, you'd probably pay more for a locked version of the same processor elsewhere.

Yeah I checked the Microcenter website and it looks like I could get that motherboard and processor for $332.45 including tax.

Alright so I changed a few things. I changed the SSD to crucial because apparently the EVO has a known firmware issue that they allegedly fixed but I've seen reports people are still having issues... would rather go for something with no known issues that has about the same performance. I also changed the ram to one that was on the motherboard's approved ram list.

I'm wondering if this motherboard is the best way to go. A few of the reviews I read were not impressed by it but to be honest I just grabbed it off the "glorious gaming build" featured on this site. Any comparable options that have better reviews? The microcenter bundle is pretty good though...

Also I guess I could get an after-market fan so overclocking is a possibility in the future. I've just never been keen on overclocking since most situations aren't CPU bottlenecked anyway.

I also stream WoW raids so want the 16 gigs of ram.

from what I'm gathering, 8 GB RAM is still good and it depends more on CPU/internet speeds (mostly the upload speed, though)

If you still want it, these run ~$30 cheaper

Thank you for the reply yeah I want to go 16 gigs of ram. Updated list with new motherboard and new ram. The ram wasn't on the QVL on the ASUS site but PCPartpicker says its compatible so I should be okay with it right?
