How much do you want the total cost to be?

What do you plan on doing with it?

Do you plan to overclock?

I don't know too much about overclocking, but I was planning on overclocking at least a bit.

Uses: Gaming, and office word. The game I play most is League of Legends (needs fairly low specs, but they did just upgrade the graphics on the Rift), as well as stuff like Titanfall etc.

I already own all the stuff up there, so my prices would just be for mobo and processor. I guess that I would be hoping for just under $300 for mobo and processor combined.

Too overclock you would need the 4690k, an after market cpu cooler and a Z97 motherboard. The cost is going to be more than $300, something like this http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/JJVBhM

To get you back under $300, you can get a locked CPU (as in cannot be overclocked), don't need an after market cooler and a H97 motherboard. This will still be great for gaming, something like this http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/KxfVD3

Would you say that the boost in performance from overclocking would be worth that extra $100?

I would say no, if you were to spend an extra $100 you would get a greater boost too performance spending it on the video card.
