If you can afford it, i5. If you want to save money, i3. There's a performance gap, however, taken by what you are doing, I think the i3 will do more than well.

This is the only thing I'm struggling on don't what to go with :/ just wondering if the desktop will be very fast and last long

If you ever want to game on it, go with the i5. If you will never gaming once in your life, go with the i3. The i5 will last a good while, so you should have some peace of mind there, and same goes with the i3.
