you can get three 970's for the price of two 980's and then you're cooking with gas.

and with that kind of budget why not go X99? some of your part choices seem more like a budget build than a 2800 dollar build

LinusTech already looked at 3 970s vs 2 980s and the answer is 2 980s because of the less heat output, less power consumption and less sli bridge studder. Also I am not a fan of X99 yet the ram is overly expensive and I like X97 alot more.

Yeah it looks a bit stupid but Raid0 on SSDs with nightly backups to the 500g HDD, and the other HDDs for 6tb of storage.

alright that makes sense now. tbh i've never backed up a computer but all the systemss ive used have had WD HDD's. still have one with windows 98 on it

I would use WD Blacks in some cases here but I have had 3 wd blues fail on me in weeks. Not even using raid or anything silly.
