I'll be assembling my first PC, your help will be appreciated. The build should be able to run any game from medium to high. The looks of the PC is not important. It must at least be durable up to 5 years by using it moderately (6hrs max/day). I'm not planning to upgrade any other part except from adding another memory in the future. I want to reduce botlleneck as much as possible.

Budget: 1000CAD Use: Gaming most of the time Preferred brand: Intel(cpu)

Well, I have based my optimisations on your budget of your link in your comment, but is your budget 1000CAD or 1200CAD?

Good luck!

my budget is 1000CAD but I'm willing to add up to 100$ if it will make a LOT of difference. I added the OS that's why it reached 1200. But if we can make the total to 1000CAD that would be great. Thanks for your opinion. This is the editted build:

I don't see the point of getting a B85 mobo, bios updates and it can't support overclocking. To pair with that 4690K at least a Z97 mobo is recommended. 2x4 runs better than 1x8, and getting a 3.5 inch HDD is better than getting a 2.5, and also 7200rpm would do better.

The mobo was replaced by H97 mobo, is that better than Z97? Also, I planned on getting 1x8 so I can add another 1x8 in the future but do you think 2x8 is an overkill compared to 2x4 if it will be for gaming purposes? The HDD is also replaced. This is the new system build:

The Z97 will best H97 in overclockability, more specifically in controlling timings, voltage and so on. I mean, you can try to overclock a bit with H97 but you won't find all the features (and some essential ones) that Z97 has.

About the DIMMs, let's put it this way: were you to add 2x4 to a system that has 2x4, it will turn into a 16GB with 4x4GB modules. Now, don't you think that you will need anymore than 16GB, not to say 24 or 32?

I have to do more research with overclocking but I'll go with the Z97. With the new mobo I got 4 Memory slots. I agree with you, I'll go with 2x4 in that case. Thank you for your help.

This is great. It is within my budget but my concern is reliability and efficiency. Is Zotac for the Video Card and XFX for the PSU good? Also will 550W be enough for the task? I don't care what brand it is as long as it is reliable. I read some reviews and people seldom choose those brand compared to others. If Yes then this will be the build that I will make. Thank you.
