First-time builder. Feedback / better alternatives?

I did some reading but other than that I just looked at my local retailer's website's user reviews.

Other than that I'm also looking for a good keyboard with backlighting. I've heard a lot of great things about mechanical keyboards but I've never tried one and I'm not sure they're worth it.

Mostly going be using this as a gaming machine, keeping my work (text editing, Powerpoints, and whatnot) on my laptop. I'd like to get into Battlefield and I hope I can run it at 1080p/60fps on decently high settings with this build. I just want something that would last me a year or two at the very least and that I could upgrade when the need arises (main reason I'm dropping laptops).

The first build had an older overclockable MoBo with a locked CPU, so here's a better combo.

This build has better RAM and storage, too.

Thanks for the help so far.

When you say better memory, are you referring to the RAM frequency? I recently saw this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWgzA2C61z4) that claims it doesn't really matter. Regardless, yours is better AND cheaper, but I still wonder if what he claims is true. Is 7200 rpm that much of a difference compared to 5900? It seems like a matter of preference (higher capacity vs higher speed).

1600 is generally the minimum you want.

As per 7200 vs 5900, yes it makes a difference.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/gNbcVn - Try this instead. Also mechanical keyboards are great, i would recommend the Corsair K70 RGB. Its expensive but its the best backlit mechanical keyboard out there.

Most I've seen have a US (QWERTY) layout though. I know absolutely jack about hardware - can I swap out some of the keys so it fits my region (AZERTY)? It's something ridiculously small, adapting to a new lay-out would probably take me a day or two tops, but I'd still like to know.

I'm in the same position, but on a small budget.
