Hi,

I'm looking to build a system for work/home office running several VMs mainly linux with some windows. I'm trying to also keep it low power as the system may be on for long periods of the day or may even run it 24/7 - I may have 1 VM as a dedicate NAS server.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

(I'll probably get the BitFenix Ghost case which is not on the pcpartpicker list.)

I'm not into games so don't need graphics card. Not sure if I would need any other cooling e..g cpu cooler? or the heat-sink on the cpu should be sufficient?

Just like to sanity check my build and avoid any post-purchase doh! moments.

thanks, Swift

Hi, thx for the reply. I had originally thought about the H97, but the Z97 you get more features, in particular with this one, you get 8 sata 3 connectors - I may in future get more HDD and SDD, so this gives me the flexibility.

I would imagine most of the time the machine would be set idling - I would be running many VMs but they probably won't be doing much load/work. Hence went for low power PSU - I was thinking around 350W should be sufficient but went for 400W to be safe. I think the one you mentioned is 500W would be too much for my needs. Is it the brand 'be quiet' you think is not good or the wattage.

thx.
