OK.. BSOD, looks like the motherboard on my 5 yr old Alienware is dead. Heard Dell screwed them all up since then, so I am going to try to build. I have to order these parts tonight... opinions? Will prob just use my blue ray that's in my comp now, and I already have the ram. Used for graphic design and gaming.

You could add an hdd as mass storage

This might be a bit better for the money.

I added an HDD for mass storage, assuming you would need it. A better graphics card, slightly less powerful PSU (still should be plenty), and a smaller but extremely quiet case.

I agree with the extra drive. I have a 500g SSD now, figured the two would work, but I like the 1T idea.

I noticed the power supply is 750w and not 85w0 but more moola. Is that one better?

Is there not much difference in the 5U and 3U motherboards?

I thought someone told me the diff btwn the 970 and 980 wasn't worth the cost... ?? Not arguing, just really curious. :)

Wow, didn't realize the power supply was more, my bad! SeaSonic is a great brand when it comes to power supplies but EVGA should be just fine. As far as I know there is no real difference between both boards, just more bells and whistles on the 5U as far as I can tell. And yes, the 980 isn't really worth the cost, but with your budget I felt that it might be a nice addition. If you'd rather spend the money you save by not going with the 980 on some other things, that makes perfect sense.
