From Windows 8.1 to Linux. Should I put Linux on a USB, install to separate partition, then remove Windows?

Are you want to install dual OS on a single system.

I may have both, but I think I just want Linux. (Specifically, Ubuntu GNOME v14.04.1 LTS)

Now that I think about it, yes. I can keep all my files by dual booting and moving them to other partitions or to USB, then partitions.
