Windows OS 7, 8, 8.1?

At the end of my build process, and looking at OS's. I figured I'd hit up Micro 8.1, but have had a few people ask why?

So, i have decided to ask more experienced users in the area, what is wrong with 8.1? I feel it would run fine once i get the hang of it. I figure Microsoft is going to drop all support for 7 here soon anyway.

Computer I am building is an all around computer, with heavy elements focused on gaming.

It is probably just preference. I figured to go with 8.1. Which is still my opinion at this moment.

Double bonus. I was told that windows 8.1 is a tad resource heavy, is this true?

Is it to the point where it will effect gaming as a whole, or just in certain aspects?
