I honestly don't get why Witcher 3's graphics is getting so much flak

It's as if it's people's nature in general (even websites) to just spew hate on a highly anticipated game. Some cases I can understand, but there's a reason that CD Projekt has been highly praised as a developer and of course right before W3 comes out, the hate train is just on full speed. All I ever see in negative comments are "Downgrade!" and "CDPR lied to us!" without even knowing the facts on the actual development of the game. All that's being compared is a 2 minute, 2013, old build, presentation trailer to current gameplay and all of sudden everyone is a technical/artistic expert.

Anyway, after seeing this video, I honestly can't understand why some are spewing venom on a very gorgeous looking game, despite the changes.

This is the internet. It's full of keyboard warriors fighting for social justice. That being said from what I've seen people are worried they're pulling a watch dogs and not releasing the game at it's full potential.

So long as they don't pull a Rockstar and allow people to actually modify their games without persecution, mods can fix it.

Yea, I heard that they tried to clear that up but they still screwed up.

Even if people do mod witcher 3 its offline only so it cant be as bad as rockstar.

They have always embraced moders on witcher games. It was built into the launcher even for witcher 2. They don't like hacks though. They favor content addition, not cheats

Do we know what kind of rig that footage was recorded on?

Don't know, I think this was a collection of videos other youtubers put up.

I agree. People love to hate. You go on /v/, you'd get the impression nobody there likes a single game. Ever.

It's easy to be a critic. It's much less easy to actually admit that you like something despite its flaws, because people are going to call you a "shill," "fanboy," or a "whale."

... Ok, so I get "Shill" & "Fanboy"... But "Whale"? Outside of the obvious mammals, derogatory words to call obese people or codewords for high-rollers at casinos, don't think I've ever seen that used... Mind possibly explaining the etymology? Or is it just a representation of the random hate people have?

While it's uncertain, "whale" as a term for this kind of customer would appear to be based on the idea that when you get a customer like this, you've "landed a big one." The term is acting on the metaphor of envisioning your market as a sea full of fishes, some of them bigger and more lucrative catches than others.

Ah, so the sort of person who would SLI 4 Titan X for a single 1080 screen, all because they had the cash (cents) for it but not enough sense... Thanks!

Yeah, kinda. It's really up to how you like to enjoy your game, and whether or not it's worth it to you. I have no ill will toward whales; they make it possible for everyone else, unlike the guy who buys the 4 titans. People think of it as a perjorative term mostly because of the perception that a whale will automatically be a shill for whatever game they've invested in, because so much is at stake for them.

Yep you're right. Funny enough though, I realized how ironic it is to make this topic while I have my avatar. I'd probably be called a shill on the spot.

The amount of rage here really is sad and pathetic. They deliver which is according to some reviewers one of the best games out and all these guys care about is a change in graphics. It makes me sad to be a gamer when even the gaming media is out for blood and will post negative articles just to score hits. Some gamers will as far as to say that the Witcher 2 looks better than W3.

Not that I really care about this because I know it's the internet, but I really feel sorry for CDPR after all the hard work they've done for this game. They're trying to diffuse the situation but unfortunately, they're dealing with an unreasonable crowd.

Luckily they still hit over 1 mil preorders. Not bad for a game like this.
