Antes VS. Corsair

I'm getting a new power supply to replace my Raidmax 530 watt power supply I bought on accident before learning more about it. I realized it would not be suitable for gaming or overclocking. I now deciding between the Corsair CS550M and the Antec VP550F 550w. I will use it for moderate overclocking in the future and gaming. Semi modularity is what I like it both of the PSUs as I am building in a cramped mATX case. Alternatives apprenticed if sub $75 without rebates. Thank you. Here is my current build if it helps: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/QtLCnQ

They're both tier 3 power supplies and are both just okay. If you can spend a little extra i'd recommend this http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-220gs0550v1 much better power supply and its Fully modular or http://pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-power-supply-p1550bbefx

Edit: Between the two you listed I'd say Corsair because its more effiecient and from reviews the Antec PSU is louder.

Is tier 3 okay for gaming and overclocking?

Yes tier 3s are perfectly acceptable. They aren't the best choices, but they certainly wont blow up your computer (or just fail) like a raidmax. They are safe and stable, but not ideal.

Yeah, I just looked at the reviews and then bought it. My mistake. I will probably get the corsair cause I don't want to spend too much now.

neither. antec and corsair in general are two of the least "value for dollar" brands in psus. the vp have no active pfc and the cs is low end, a marginally better build than the cx with better efficiency and overpriced. look at the xfx TS 550.

None of TS are modular though which is important in my build since cable management would be hard without it.

it's now a matter of what's more important to you, luxury features like modular cables or a good psu for your build and for your money. if you are budget capped you're going to have to sacrifice something.

The XTR looks nice as it is 80+ gold and fully modular.

I don't know where you are buying from, but the xtr series is among the best in it's range. the 550 watt is currently $74.99 on newegg.com.

I am going with that one.

Glad you convinced him. I recommended the XTR, but he was reluctant to spend the money.
